The short version
TabBase keeps your tabs in your browser. If you create an account, it also keeps your email address and a copy of your tabs so they sync between your devices. We also count page visits anonymously, to see how the app is used. There are no ads, no tracking cookies and no tracking across other sites, and nothing is sold or shared for marketing.
Without an account
Everything stays on your device, in your browser's local storage: your tabs, deleted-tab markers, the bar you last edited in each tab, the bar clipboard, and which tab links you've already imported. None of it is sent to us. Clearing your browser's site data removes it, and some browsers (Safari in particular) may clear it themselves if you don't visit for a while. Creating an account keeps a copy in the cloud.
With an account
When you sign up, we keep:
- Your email address, to sign you in and to help you back in if you forget your password. We don't send newsletters or marketing.
- Your password, stored only as a secure hash by our sign-in provider. Nobody at TabBase can see it.
- Your tabs: everything you write in them (titles, notes, tags, key, tempo, sections), plus when each was last changed, so your devices can agree on the newest copy. When you delete a tab, its content is removed from the cloud and only a marker remains, so your other devices delete it too.
Your browser also keeps a sign-in token in local storage, so you stay signed in on that device. TabBase uses no cookies and no tracking across other sites.
Tab links
A tab link (Copy link, or an /import link) carries the whole tab in the part of the address after the #. Browsers don't send that part to a server, and the visit counts leave it out, so the tab in a link never reaches us. Anyone you send a link to can read the tab in it.
Visit counts
We use Vercel Web Analytics to count visits: which pages are opened, and roughly from where. For each page view it records the page's address (only the path, like /help: anything after a ? or #, such as the tab in a tab link, is removed first), the site you came from, your country, and your browser, operating system and type of device. It uses no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. Vercel tells visits apart with a code made from your request that changes every day, so it can't follow you from day to day or across other sites, and we can't tell who you are. It never sees your tabs.
Contact form
If you send a message from the Help page, your name (if you give one), your email address and your message are emailed to us so we can reply. We use them only to answer you, and don't add you to any list.
Who handles your data
TabBase runs on these services, which process data only to run the app:
- Supabase stores accounts and synced tabs, in the United States (AWS, Ohio). Data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
- Vercel hosts the app. Like any web host, it briefly logs requests (IP address, browser type, page requested) to keep the service running and secure, and runs the visit counts above.
- Google (Gmail) delivers and stores contact form messages.
- Resend delivers the emails our sign-in provider sends, such as password reset codes. It sees your email address and the message, and keeps a short delivery log.
We don't share your data with anyone else, unless the law requires it. If you're outside the United States, your data is stored and processed there.
How long we keep it
For as long as you have an account. Deleting your account deletes your email address and every tab stored with it. Copies in the service providers' backups and logs expire on their own schedules, usually within a few weeks.
Your choices
- See or take your tabs: they're all in the app, and Copy link or Export PDF gives you any tab as a link or a PDF.
- Correct: edit any tab, or change your password from the account menu.
- Delete: delete tabs in the app. To delete your account and everything stored with it, open the account menu (the cloud in the header) and choose Delete account. It takes effect at once.
- Stop syncing: sign out. Your tabs stay on that device and stop syncing.
Depending on where you live (for example the EU, the UK or California), you may have further rights over your data, such as to object to how it's used or to complain to your data protection authority. We keep and sync your tabs because you ask us to by creating an account: that is the only reason we process your data.
Children
TabBase isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly create accounts for them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date, and if a change matters for how your data is used, we'll tell you in the app.
